BLS summer reception celebrates cultural unity and membership milestone

The summer reception of the British-Luxembourg Society took place on Thursday 29 June, at the residence of British ambassador Fleur Thomas. The event witnessed an impressive turnout of over 150 attendees.

On the evening of Thursday 29 June 2023, over 150 members (old and new) of the British-Luxembourg Society (BLS) gathered at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Luxembourg-Ville for the BLS Summer Reception.

The embassy had invited a refugee pâtissier from Bucha in Ukraine to make the desserts for the reception and ThomasThomas during her speech welcomed Nicolas Zharov and Inna Yaremenko from LUkraine. “You carry on your shoulders the burden of this war,” she said of the organisation’s work to support victims of the conflict in Luxembourg and Ukraine.

Thomas paid “tribute to the enduring friendship between our two nations” during her toast.

AmCham Chairman & CEO Paul Schonenberg and well-wishers from all nations gathered this past weekend at St. George’s School to celebrate with the British Chamber of Commerce, the British-Luxembourg Society and others the coronation of King Charles III.

British-Luxembourg Society celebrates 75 years with gala dinner

The British-Luxembourg Society celebrated its 75th anniversary with a gala dinner on Saturday evening.
The black-tie event at Cercle Munster followed a rigorous lecture by Guy Thewes.
The Luxembourgish historian spoke of the role Great Britain played towards Luxembourg’s independence.
A cocktail reception, sponsored by Banque Havilland, commenced the evening, supported by the sounds of live harp music.
Louise Benjamin, the society’s President, highlighted the benefits of membership.

On Friday 18th March the BLS launched its programme to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
Louise Benjamin , Darren Robinson and Jacqui Spence were guests of Lisa Burke on the new RTL English Radio Channel.
Jacqui Spence traced the early history of the Society, its formation in 1947 as a mark of gratitude to the United Kingdom for all the support during the war.

I’m pleased to announce that following the AGM (6.3.23) I have been elected to serve the Society as the newly appointed President, for which I am truly honoured. Louise Benjamin, had decided to step down from the role and remains on Council as the Outgoing President to ensure a smooth handover.
