Visit to the European Court of Justice
Wednesday 13th November 2024
8.00-13.00
Dear Members,
I am delighted to announce our last tour of the year, a visit to the European Court of Justice. Unless we are directly involved with the EU institutions the ECJ is frequently commented upon, but little understood. This is a unique opportunity to have an in-depth view of its workings and it jurisdiction over EU law. I am very grateful to the Court services and to Sir Nicholas Forwood , retired UK Judge at the Court and one of our patrons, who will accompany us and I am sure add additional insights into the judicial side of of the EU. The tour will be conducted in English, but when we attend a case in the Court, where applicants and judges may speak in any recognised EU language, simultaneous interpretation will be available. This tour will be of interest to those who wish to learn more about the Court, its jurisdiction and processes. Hopefully it will appeal to non lawyers and lawyers alike.
The programme is as follows:
8.00 Meeting at the visitors entrance – rue Charles-Léon Hammes
(Please take account of traffic at this time of day) there is no visitors parking so you might
consider taking public transport
On arrival there will be registration and a security check, please bring photo ID
- 8.45 Briefing on case to be observed
- 9.30- 11.15 Hearing of case
- 11.15-11.30. Break
- 11.30- 12.15 Guided tour of the Court buildings
- 12.15 General Presentation of the Court of Justice
- 13.00 End of programme

There is no charge for this tour, but please register only if you are certain you will be able attend, the Court will not accept persons who are not on our pre submitted registration list.
With best wishes
